Bike to Work Day Postponed_page header

Bike Month

To ensure a safe and healthy experience for our region, the 30th Annual SANDAG Bike to Work Day was postponed to Thursday, May 20, 2021. We are excited to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the San Diego region’s Bike to Work Day activities in 2021.

SANDAG shifted gears in 2020 and prepared a variety of digital options to support San Diegans as they GO by BIKE. May was still National Bike Month. The San Diego County Bicycle Coalition and Love to Ride held weekly Bike Month challenges, prizes, and classes to encourage you to get on your bike.

Virtual bike education. iCommute will continue helping your employees GO by BIKE! Take advantage of these FREE employer bike services so that employees are ready to bike commute again soon. Choose from a bike commuting class or a virtual bike maintenance safety check. K-12 schools can register for an online bike and traffic safety class or virtual assembly.

Bike to Work webinar. We hosted a biking webinar on the originally scheduled Bike to Work Day, Thursday, May 14. Watch a recording to learn essential skills for bike commuters and updates on bike infrastructure projects and our regional bike network. We received many great questions that we didn't have time to answer so be sure to check out our webinar FAQs.

GO by BIKE Mini-Grant program.
The 2021 GO by BIKE Mini-Grant program is being paused due to the pandemic. Instead, grant funds are being reallocated for the Shared Streets Pilot Program in support of Bike Month 2021. A Request for Grant Applications will be released on December 1, 2020. Any of the 18 incorporated cities or the County of San Diego are eligible for program funding to implement shared streets pilots that create safe and healthy spaces for biking and riding other micromobility options (e.g., scooters, skateboards) while reducing vehicle miles traveled. These jurisdictions may partner with other groups (e.g., non-profit, advocacy, community-based organizations) to implement the pilot. More information will be posted soon at sandag.org/sharedstreets

29th Annual SANDAG Bike to Work Day. Rain or shine, more than 8,200 visits at 100 pit stops were recorded on Bike to Work Day, Thursday, May 16, 2019. Thank you to the record-breaking 7,593 participants who registered to GO by BIKE! Photos of the event can be found on the iCommute Facebook page.

GO by BIKE all year long. With more than 1,644 miles of bikeways in the San Diego region, you can get almost anywhere by riding a bike. Check out plans for new bikeways at GObyBIKEsd.com. iCommute can help you get started with riding tips, bike safety tips, secure bike parking, information about taking your bike on transit, and more. Chart your course using the San Diego Regional Bike Map.

SANDAG remains committed to building the “GO by BIKE” Regional Bike Network to make biking a convenient and safe option for everyday transportation needs. We hope you’ll consider opportunities to continue to GO by BIKE.
